The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Callibrate your Wacom tutorialHad you finally made the transition from intuos 3 to intuos 4?, or Are you rich to change into an intuos 5? Had you made the transition from a first generation cintiq to the new ones?. More levels of pressure will mean more quality to the paintings, am i right?.
Did you thought that by default the pen will it be like using butter on bread?, you try it for the first time and you love all of it, you said i have sooooooo much control on my strokes im having a blast. Then only to realize you only have total control of the brush but when you are moving it really slow?. But when you do quick strokes the pressure drops a lot of paint making you redraw tons of stuff?
Did you ever thought that painter its hard to handle with new tablet? Too much pressure? If it has more pressure why i cant control more easier the beggining of the stroke which is more crucial?.

My best friend ever, David Linder moved to Japan yesterday.
That coupled with how little I've been interacting with the outside world has left me feeling a little dazed.
At the airport David gave me a poster he did for a video game store

I've been doing this trick when I HAVE to draw all day.
I just play one song over and over and over and over.
I remember the Reyyyyyy used to do it when he was working
on his Peng book and I thought it was annoying insanity--now I see the error of my ways.

The thing I've been listening to is insperational white rap.
Eminem always reminds me of doin time in NYC. My sweet nyc girl friend was all about fucking with me. Once we were in some shoe store in deepest darkest manhattan and I'm on the other end of the place trying on something and the 8 mile theme comes on the radio--across the store she yells "B-RANDON, THEY'RE PLAYING YOUR SONG! YOU LOVE THIS SONG!" Same girl that used to point at me in a crowded subway platform and say "he beats me. Anyone? this guy beats me?" --good times.

In the midst of all this King city I've been reading Maka-Maka that they got translated up here--[link] like straight up porn. But it all full color and sweet and really well drawn. I seriosly belive that some of the best dudes to touch a comic are drawing porn in japan. I have no idea whay that is.
But i can't think of another full color manga that looks half as cool as that stuff.

OK--enough of all this I'm going back into the trenches.

I know how you feel. I feel like I'm floating somewhere between reality sometimes. All I do anymore is go to work and go home. I moved a few months ago, and it still feels kinda surreal. And the only way to keep in touch with my friends is via the internet.

If you like Pink Floyd at all, you should play "Another Brick in the Wall (Part II)" on repeat. That song always gets me going whenever I need to get shit done.

Actually, I see where that one song thing really helps. When a song changes while drawing your mindset changes, as well as being momentarily distracting, and you lose what you had going before.
But I don't do that personally, because I like making changes to my work. At least it doesn't make it stagnent. Or maybe I'm just fucked.
